Your Fire Protection Code Consultant
Consulting Essential for building Safety
We provide advice and guidance to ensure that your projects are designed, built, and maintained to meet all necessary fire protection standards. Our services help to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop appropriate strategies to mitigate them.
Building, Fire Code & Standards
Our practice focuses on Part 3 and part 9 of Canadian Building Codes, Fire Codes and referenced documents such as (National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Underwriter Laboratories (UL), (ULC), National Standard of Canada (CAN/ULC), American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM), American Petroleum Institute (API), FM Global (FM) and many others.
We often evaluate international standards such as VDS, IP-19 Code of Practice and relevant industry-specific testing standards such as LASTFIRE prior to starting special hazard projects to obtain the most optimized solution for our clients.
Alternative Solutions
Building and Fire Codes permit the use of new practices and technologies proposed as alternative solutions and accepted by the authority having jurisdiction. Most technical standards allow for equivalent proposals to the prescribed solutions.
We are experienced in preparing alternative solutions or technical standard equivalents to obtain the most optimized solution for our clients.
Negotiations with AHJ
We follow up and negotiate with AHJ’s (authorities having jurisdiction) alternative solutions or technical equivalents to obtain the most optimized solution for our clients.
Risk & Hazard Assessments
We advise our client on risk-informed decision-making based on Fire risk Assessments.
Fire Risk Assessments including event tree probabilities and risk matrix are typically prepared according to NFPA 551 standards.
FEHM Evaluations
We also utilize (FEHM) Fire and Explosion Hazard Management evaluation in industrial projects described in IP-19 Code of Practice.
Fire Modelling
We use Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool to model smoke and heat transfer from design fires identified in Risk and Hazard Assessments.
Fire Dynamic Tools (FDT) spreadsheets developed by The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Proprietary developed spreadsheets from NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) and other fire science literature.
Performance-Based Designs
Based on the identified and quantified design fires we design the system with predetermined specific objectives. An example of a specific design objective is that the system should extinguish the full surface and rim seal fire within a specific, predetermined time.
The detailed inputs for the design of the fire protection system are based on the established performance objectives. The equipment is selected or designed accordingly to meet the established implementation objectives.
Product Development
To meet customer objectives we often work with manufacturers on modification of their products and creating new ones. An example would be CAF (compressed air foam ) unit activated by NAC (Notification Appliance Circuit) energized by thermal cameras
Certified Professional (CP)
We are qualified to act as a Certified Professional (CP) in jurisdictions recognizing (CP) program as an alternative to conventional building and construction monitoring process. As Certified Professionals, we can help by obtaining necessary permits and approvals, and ensuring that your building or project meets the necessary fire-safety requirements.
Expert Witness
We provide technical and specialized knowledge that can help stakeholders better understand the issues at hand and make a fair and informed decision.
We can assist with:
- Loss investigation services
- System failure analysis
- Expert witness services
- Technical investigations
- Exhibits for courtroom use
